Mental Health Skill Building Services

(MMHS) Clients with severe mental illness over 18 years covered under Medicaid

Through personalized support, our team helps clients enhance daily living skills, improve social interactions, and build effective coping strategies, all within a compassionate and structured environment.

Mental Health Skill Building Program provides specialized care for local individuals who suffer from mental illness, lack basic living skills, and are covered by VA Medicaid. Mental Health Skill Building Services offer structured activities and ongoing support and guidance toward meeting an individualized service plan (ISP) that includes independent living skills goals. Individual sessions are available at home and in the community to address skill deficits that prevent individuals from functioning independently in society, as well as family education, as appropriate, to help strengthen communication, interactions, and skills.

Led by a team of compassionate professionals, including licensed counselors and Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs), this program focuses on helping clients develop essential skills such as emotional regulation, effective communication, and problem-solving.

Skill Building Services also provide:

Training and reinforcement of functional skills and appropriate behaviors related to the individual’s health and safety.

Appropriate use of social skills and personal support systems.

Skills to manage personal hygiene, food preparation, maintenance of adequate nutrition, money management, and other basic life skills.

Adherence to psychiatric and physical health medication treatment plans, along with monitoring and education regarding mental health, nutrition, and physical condition.
